There is a wealth of traditional information on maters of health to be derived from the Indigenous peoples of Australia that has not-to the shame of Australia and the Aboriginal people-been shared. It is time to put aside the disrespectful behaviour, and share this rapidly disappearing treasure. After all, this is the oldest extant culture and medicine on earth.

There is also an enormous lack of understanding in the health industry as to the needs of Indigenous peoples, and the root causes of their states of poor health; physical, psychological and social.

What is of primary value to Indigenous peoples in one part of the world, is also of primary importance to native peoples in other regions of the world. It is vital for healthworkers in rural communities, therefore, to become aware of the needs of Indigenous peoples, and to become familiar with what they can offer the health industry in return.

PROPOSAL:
To facilitate a workshop that illuminates the wealth of special knowledge held by indigenous peoples; gives the participant of the workshop an experience of such traditional knowledge; and clearly articulates the deeper causes of a lower standard of health in indigenous communities.
