The College of General Practitioners was established 1991 in Fiji. The College is the Professional representative of the Private Sector Primary-health care providers in Fiji. The bulk of providers serve as general practitioners and we have accommodated some Specialists in the private sector.

The College is an affiliate of WONCA and has part-taken in the activities of the above mentioned organization in the international arena.

The Fiji General Practitioner.
The Fiji General Practitioner is the official quarterly journal of the organization. The journal is one means of providing ongoing formal education to its members and other interested Health delivery organizations based in the Western Pacific region. The issues discussed in the journal are relevant and topical primary health-care topics relevant to Asia-Pacific and the developing world.

The Structure of the Journal.

1. Editorial/Guest Editorial
The journal is composed of an editorial which is relevant to the theme of each issue.

2. Medico-political/Legal Column
This deals with relevant Issues affecting primary care in Fiji AND other regional states in the south pacific region.

3. Invited review articles.
These relate to the theme and usually from experts updating the knowledge base with attempts to provide new evidence towards practice-management.

4. Original research/Audit.
We attempt to look at Office based and primary-care research relevant to the delivery of general practice and primary-care.

5. Continuing Medical Education. {CME}
This deals with radiological/dermatological/laboratory quiz.
Members are encouraged to e-mail their answers to the National CME officer and correct answers earn relevant points in return.

6. Correspondence.
This includes a regional roundup/ Letters to the editor/Obituaries.

7. Hobby corner/ Med-Watch.
Practitioners are encouraged to share their interest with others. This section includes poems, stories, recipes, jokes. The Med –Watch is a watch dog column to happenings in the profession, aimed to generate discussion, thoughts and actions with regard to professional, ethical and moral dilemmas facing the profession locally.
