The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians was founded in 1977 by the late Dr Henry FK Li as chairman of the interim council and Dr Peter CY Lee as founding president with the aim to improve the quality of primary care in Hong Kong through continuing medical education, training, and assessment. Through the years of establishment, the College has progressed from a small association into one of the founding Constituent Colleges of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. Family Medicine is now established as an academic discipline and specialty.
As our continued effort to enhance the profession's commitment to deliver quality service to the community of Hong Kong, and to be accountable and transparent to the public, A scientific meeting on the theme "Professional Performance and Training" has been organized in March 2003. We are honoured to have the Hon Chief Justice, Mr. Andrew Li, the President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Dr. Leong Che Hung, our Founding President, Dr. Peter Lee, and our President, Dr Donald Li to officiate the Opening Ceremony of the Scientific Meeting. Many prominent guests from overseas including Prof. Yvonne Carter, Dr. Beth Jane, Prof. Leon Piterman, Prof. Dai Yuhua, Dr. Clarke Munro, Dr. MK Rajakumar, Prof. Michael Kidd and Dr. Neil Spike had come to our scientific meeting and shared their experience. It is also the first time we co-organized our Fellowship Conferment Ceremony with our sister college, Hong Kong College of Community Medicine.
