MEET PROFESSOR GOH LEE GAN, WONCA REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT FOR ASIA-PACIFIC

Professor Goh Lee Gan is Associate Professor, Department of Community, Occupational & Family Medicine, in the National University of Singapore. He is married to Ms Chan Swee Swan and they have one son who is a doctor.

After medical school graduation in 1971, Professor Goh has practised 7 years in Government service, 10 years in private practice, and for the last 14 years as an academic family physician teaching undergraduate and postgraduate family medicine and public health in the National University of Singapore. He still practices one session a week at the Government Polyclinic. Lee Gan is currently Council member of the College of Family Physicians of Singapore. He was the immediate past Censor-in-chief, and a past Honorary Secretary and Honorary Editor of the College.

Lee Gan has been involved with WONCA since 1980. He was a member of the organising committee of the 10th Wonca World Conference hosted in Singapore in 1983. He was in charge of publications and edited the conference proceedings for the World conference. He served as Secretary of the WONCA Asia Pacific Task Force on Education from 1991-2001. As one of the 4-member team, he visited China in 1990-91 and produced a report and gave recommendations on the medical education system in China. For his work in the Asia-Pacific Region, he was made a Fellow of WONCA in 1998. Professor Goh sees his contribution to Wonca to be local, regional and international. His vision is to enable every family doctor in the world to practise competently and play a meaningful role in the health care delivery system of his or her country.
