Dr Tariq Aziz (Pakistan)


Dr Tariq Aziz is a family doctor born in 1956. Dr Aziz passed matriculation from St Anthony’s High School with ROLE OF HONOR and got a position in Lahore Board obtaining ‘National Talent Scholarship, with the highest percentage for the last one hundred years. 

Dr Aziz did FSc Premedical from Govt College Lahore (now university) with a position in Lahore Board and again National Talent Scholarship. He passed MBBS from King Edward Medical College Lahore with Talent Scholarship in all professional exams throughout King Edward Med College(now university). Dr Aziz also carried out a house job from Mayo Hospital and related institutions in Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine.

With more than 40 years in General Practice (from 1981 to date), Dr Aziz also passed MD (USA)1981, MRCGP-UK (Int) 2008 and later got FRCGP (Int)(UK), and Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin (USA). Dr Aziz also became an examiner for MRCGP from the Royal College of GPs, an Examiner for MCPS and FCPS from CPSP(College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and an Examiner at King Edward Medical College.

Dr Aziz also created First Family Medicine Dept in Punjab at FMH (Fatima Memorial Hospital) by developing the ‘Endowment Fund’. He worked as Chief of Family Medicine (Head of Dept) at FMH with, successful Resident Training Program. He also became a Member steering Committee University of Health Sciences and developed Curriculum of Diploma and MD in Family Medicine at UHS (Parent University) of More than 90 medical Colleges, became Adjunct Faculty at Fatima Memorial Hospital and Med College and also Adjunct Professor at UHS, Secretary of Pakistan Society of Family Physicians and later President of Pakistan Society of Family Physicians.

In WONCA, he served as a working party member on Rural Health and contributed towards WONCA Rural Health Journal, Direct Member of WONCA in the 1990s, life Member of WONCA in 2018. Dr Aziz became President-Elect for WONCA SAR in 2018 and took the Presidency of WONCA SAR in 2021.        

Dr Aziz collaborated in multiple events and conferences, organising the CMEs for Family Physicians for the last thirty years, the yearly International Conferences on Family Medicine, the WONCA SAR Congress in 1994 (chaired by Raja Kumar EX WONCA President) at Lahore, the WONCA SAR Conference at Lahore in 2019 (chaired by President Donald Li, President-Elect WONCA Anna Stavdal, and former CEO Garth Manning), with attendees from 46 Countries.
 
He has attended numerous WONCA Conferences worldwide, including Canada, Ireland, Australia, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, UAE (online) and Lahore, Pakistan.
 
His current responsibilities include Family Physicians training for MRCGP, MCPS, and other Diploma exams. He also became a Master Training in Family Medicine for Faculty Development ‘Program, as liaison with all other departments at FMH + Aga Khan University to make training of Family Physicians successful during Residency Training Program. Dr Aziz also heads special efforts to make the Family Medicine Dept ‘Self-Financed ‘ as all finances initially were paid from ‘Endowment Fund’, along with training and promotion of Family Medicine.
