Prof Dr Faisal A. Alnaser (Bahrain)

Prof Dr Faisal A. Alnaser studied medicine at the College of Medicine of Ain Shams University in Egypt, before joining a family medicine residency programme and later travelling to Glasgow University to complete a PhD in family medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK), a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, Royal College of Physicians, UK. In Bahrain, he combined academic work at the Arabian Gulf University with clinical service at the Ministry of Health, holding positions including Vice President of the University, Acting Dean of the Medical School, and Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He served as Chairman of the Scientific Council for Family and Community Medicine at the Arab Board for Health Specialties for over eight years, helping to establish family medicine residency programmes in countries including Egypt, Yemen, Iraq and Sudan. He has published more than 70 papers in peer reviewed journals, three books, and chapters in three international textbooks. In 2018, he received WONCA's Award of Excellence in Health Care, the Five Star Doctor Award, representing the WONCA East Mediterranean region. In 2025, he was awarded the Fellowship of WONCA in recognition of his contributions to family medicine and primary health care. Prof Alnaser is President of WONCA East Mediterranean Region.
