WONCA has a number of Working Parties and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and regional Young Doctors' Movements (YDMs)
that work between world council meetings to progress specific areas of
interest to WONCA and its members around the globe. These groups
comprise hundreds of family doctors who meet three yearly, sometimes
more often, and in between work by correspondence. Over the years they
have carried out groundbreaking studies and research, and have produced a
variety of important publications.
Young Doctors’ Movements
The WONCA movements for young and future family doctors are going from strength to
strength and it seems, growing at every WONCA conference. Groups are
formed on a regional basis, with the first group formed, in 2005, being
the Vasco da Gama Movement in Europe. Most recently, The Spice Route was
formed for young doctors in the South Asia region. There are active
movements also in the Asia Pacific region (Rajakumar Movement) and
Iberoamericana-CMIF region (Waynakay Movement).
