AfriWON Research Group Monthly Meetings

AfriWon Renaissance is the African organisation for young and future general practitioners and family physicians, under the WONCA Africa region. The AfriWON Research Group (ARG) meets monthly to discuss research relevant to family medicine across the continent.

All meetings run from 17:00 to 18:00 UTC (6-7pm WAT, 7-8pm CAT, 8-9pm EAT). Everyone is welcome.

23 August 2026: Infertility in Primary Care

Speaker: Dr Ozoemena Ibeziako, South African Country Lead of the WONCA Africa Region Women Working Party, based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Dr Ibeziako is a Principal Specialist Family Physician and Unit Head of the Family Medicine Department at Ekurhuleni Health Subdistrict 1, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, both in Gauteng Province. She was the winner of the 2025 Best Medical Leadership award for the Ekurhuleni Health District.

She has a special interest in restorative reproductive health. She is a provider of Fertility Education and Medical Management (accredited in New York, USA) and a Billings Ovulation Method practitioner (accredited in Melbourne, Australia). She also holds a master's degree in Marriage and Counselling, and is pursuing a PhD in educational psychology at the University of Navarre, Pamplona, Spain. As a senior lecturer she has trained and mentored several family physicians who have gone on to take up consultant positions.

She is involved in diverse community projects and is founder of the LUFUNO Family Institute (www.lufunoinstitute.org). She won the 2019 Harambee Award for promoting women's equity through the "Art of Living" project.
