The Besrour Centre for Global Family Medicine (Besrour Centre) at the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) , thanks to the generous support of the CFPC’s Foundation for the Advancement of Family Medicine (FAFM), is seeking proposals for a Global COVID-19 pandemic innovation response for grants up to $50,000 Canadian dollars (CAD). We’re happy for Member Organizations to develop their own theme for FDD, depending on local priorities, but this year we’d especially like to highlight the theme that relevant to challenges and responsibilities of family doctors in the new global coronavirus outbreak. – "Family doctors on the front line".

The Taiwan Family Medicine Research Award (TFMRA) was established by the Chinese Taipei Association of Family Medicine in 2008. It will support three junior family physicians to attend the WONCA World Conference and applications are welcome from all WONCA regions.

Dr Shigeaki HINOHARA who was the most eminent physician in Japan died on July 18, 2017 at the age of 105.

Applications are sought for this year's Dr Atai Anne Deborah Omoruto Scholarship Award for an African woman to attend the 2017 WONCA Africa conference in Pretoria.

WONCA CEO, Garth Manning, has written a letter to member organisations informing them of an exciting development of a new global jobs board on the WONCA website.

The time has come to seek applications from doctors from these two regions for Montegut scholarships, allowing one doctor from each region to attend regional conferences in August. This year there will be two awards for the Africa region and one for the Iberoamericana region.

In mid 2014 The Lancet commissioned a group of 21 independent experts in a variety of disciplines to generate a report on Essential Medicines Policies to be published in late 2016. Dr Lembit Rägo, Secretary-General, CIOMS shares the report.

Prof Michael Kidd, WONCA Immediate Past President directs us to an announcment by the WHO that Dr Halfdan Mahler, the third WHO Director-General has died. Prof Kidd says "He is being hailed, I think appropriately, as a hero of global public health and primary health care."
