Webinar: Learning From Policies That Work

The WONCA Special Interest Group on Policy Advocacy invite you to join their first activity of 2024; an online webinar with two distinguished leaders in the field of policy advocacy and family medicine.

The webinar titled 'Learning from policies that work - a conversation with leaders' will take place on Friday 2nd February at 15:00 UTC on Zoom, and is scheduled to run for two hours and will be hosted by Prof Amanda Howe and Dr Sankha Randenikumara, co-chairs of the WONCA Special Interest Group (SIG) on Policy Advocacy.

The focal point of the event is to provide a platform for family doctor leaders who have not only been instrumental in developing impactful policies but have also effectively utilised them to educate and advocate for the advancements of family medicine. By tapping into the rich experiences of the panellists, participants will gain valuable insights into the practical aspects of policy development, implementation, and the subsequent impact on healthcare systems.

Dr. Anna Stavdal (Norway), Immediate Past President of WONCA.
Dr. Lauren Hughes (USA), State Policy Director, Farley Health Policy Center.

Dr Anna Stavdal is a family medicine specialist, working for the past 30 years in Oslo’s inner city. Since 1996, she has been an Associate Professor at Oslo University, teaching undergraduate students and training family medicine residents. Anna has, for many years, been active in pubA main area of interest for her is how, as family doctors, we can adapt to current societal trends, such as digital health, without losing sight of the core values of our field. She has held leading positions in family medicine organisations for 25 years - at the national Norwegian level, the Nordic and European levels, as WONCA President from 2021-2023, and is currently a member of the WONCA Executive Council.

Dr. Lauren Hughes is a family physician working at the nexus of primary care, health policy and public and population health to improve the lives and well-being of vulnerable communities. She is the State Policy Director of the Farley Health Policy Center and an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado. Recognized for her leadership, she received awards such as the Women Leaders in Medicine Award and the Early Career Achievement Award. Dr. Hughes, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, is appointed to the National Academy of Medicine Board on Health Care Services and elected Chair of the American Board of Family Medicine Board of Directors. With a rich academic background, including an MSc from the University of Michigan and degrees from Dartmouth College, The George Washington University, and the University of Iowa, she brings a wealth of expertise to her multifaceted roles.
