Young Doctors Movements

December, 2014

The second Vasco da Gama Movement Forum will take place in Dublin, Ireland on 20th and 21st February 2015. VdGM is the WONCA Europe network for new and future General Practitioners / Family Physicians and the VdGM Forum is a two day conference for new and future European family doctors. The title for the 2015 Forum is Family Medicine 2.0: Innovation and Awareness, and these themes will be reflected throughout the meeting.

Polaris has been busy since its launch six months ago on World Family Doctor Day. We are happy to report on Polaris’ first executive meeting that recently took place November 12, 2014 during the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) annual Family Medicine Forum in Quebec City, Canada.

In order to allow those unable to attend in person to partake in the excitement, we asked social media participants in the Polaris forum, as well as our international supporters, to share with us how "Family Medicine" or its cultural equivalent is written in their native tongue. Responses went viral.

More than 2,500 specialists in Family and Community Medicine attended the XXXIV semFYC Annual Meeting - 80 scientific activities were conducted including some international conferences as the one performed by Vasco da Gama Movement

The astonishing city of Lisbon was the host of the 10th anniversary preconference of the Vasco da Gama Movement (VDGM), which was held on 1st and 2nd July 2014, and was made possible thanks to the enduring effort and passion of the preconference organising team and the unconditional support of the Portuguese Association of Family Medicine (APMGF).

From September 11-13, 2014, the AAFP Global Health Workshop was held in San Diego... A Vasco da Gama Movement team, of Ana Nunes Barata, Lisa Gambhir and Harris Lygidakis, had the great opportunity to participate in this workshop. Includes videos of exchange participants and hosts.

At the recent South Asia region conference in Chennai, Dr Bhavna Matta was announced as the new chair of The Spice Route Movement, for young family doctors/ GPs in South Asia.

For the first time ever – all seven Young Doctor Movement leaders/representatives met via teleconference. The meeting’s agenda included important topics such as the relationship between the Young Doctor Movements (YDMs) with WONCA proper, the sharing of resources, exchange of best practices, and current YDM-led initiatives including the Family Medicine 360 Exchange Program (FM360) and the ASPIRE Global Leader Program.
